Have you been told that you need to have a tooth extracted? You may be worried about the procedure itself, or maybe you’re concerned about post-surgery complications like dry socket.

But your dental team has lots of experience in helping patients experience stress-free tooth extractions in Miami Beach, FL so that you can check that off your list of concerns. They will send you home with post-surgery care instructions, so your only job is to follow them to avoid complications.

Give Yourself the Day Off

Life is busy, but you need to rest on the day your tooth is removed. Plan to go home after your procedure and pamper yourself with some TLC so your body and mouth can rest and recover. Your mouth will be numb for several hours afterward, and if you’ve had sedation, you’ll need to allow plenty of time for the medication to leave your system.

  • Bite down gently but firmly on the gauze pad provided for one to two hours after your surgery to control bleeding.
  • Rinse your mouth three times a day with salt water which acts as an antiseptic and promotes faster healing.
  • Do not smoke or drink through a straw as it can dislodge the protective clot that’s forming over the extraction site.
  • Control pain by taking medications as directed and applying a cold pack on and off your face for 20-minute intervals.

You’ll also need to eat soft foods the day of your procedure. Stock up on yogurt, soup, ice cream, and add more solid foods day by day.
